COLLEGE OF BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING, RANGSIT UNIVERSITY

Message from the Dean, Academic Year 2020
The College of Biomedical Engineering, Rangsit University, is guided by the vision for educational reform of Dr. Arthit Ourairat, President of Rangsit University, promoting the RSU Model of "Innovative Startup Entrepreneurship" by Integrative and Regenerative Competency-based Technology Transformation. Our main goal therefore is the development of competencies and skills necessary for the 21st century to lead the wave of global change. "
Since the academic year 2002, Rangsit University has been running a Bachelor of Science (BSc) program in Biomedical Instrumentation, under the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science.
This program was revised in the 2012 academic year to become the Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) program in Biomedical Engineering, remaining under the Department of Physics. Faculty of Science.
The program leader successfully developed all dimensions of educational management, including research and development, academic and administrative services. On 1 August 2016, Rangsit University upgraded the Biomedical Engineering Program to the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering. In approximately 2 years, on July 16, 2018, Rangsit University issued an order to upgrade from the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering to the College of Biomedical Engineering.
Since founding the Biomedical Engineering Program in 2002, the curriculum has produced more than 450 graduates in biomedical engineering to serve society. Of these, 25 qualified personnel have been produced for the Ministry of Public Health of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
Graduates from Rangsit University have gone on to become biomedical engineers for Thailand, fulfilling public health development needs, and raising the standards of healthcare for Thai people. By doing so, these competent biomedical engineers are helping to meet international standards, driving the national strategy of becoming the medical hub of Asia.
The current time is an era of transition between the 20th and 21st centuries. The world is in a state of change which brings with it significant uncertainty that makes future trends difficult to foresee. The future may present new sets of threats, new restrictions, new rules, as well as new opportunities and expectations. Following the COVID-19 epidemic crisis, we must work together to ensure the safety and health of all people - biomedical engineers will play a pivotal role in overcoming these challenges.
Therefore, the mission that the College of Biomedical Engineering, Rangsit University attaches the utmost importance to is to produce a bright new future for all graduates, by making "The world of learning, the world of work, and the world of the future, to be the same world". We aim to provide students with the capabilities to excel in the various dimensions of the new platform of the world in the 21st century.
The strategy for the development of the College of Biomedical Engineering throughout this period is based on the philosophy that "innovation, entrepreneurial spirit and internationalization can overcome everything and bring success", with a vision to develop in all aspects to become the "College of Innovation and the Spirit of Entrepreneurs in Biomedical Engineering for ASEAN Society". The College's aspiration is "to produce international biomedical engineers with the entrepreneurial spirit to support the health care system for society" and foster healthy attitudes to "Behave morally, think innovatively, and act with the entrepreneurial spirit".
In response to and to cope with the aforementioned changes, the College of Biomedical Engineering has established and laid out the following 3 strategies:
Strategy 1: Developing educational systems that are in line with real entrepreneurs.
This strategy consists of educational management that focuses on results by breaking the course wall and integrating knowledge in all related areas. The aim is to produce graduates with ownership or entrepreneurial spirit, focusing on leading change in every dimension. The key is to produce graduates who are global biomedical engineers that can work all over the world with a commitment to development and the management of technology in biomedical engineering for the benefit of the nation and the Thai people under morality and ethics.
All education systems must be flexible in response to lifelong learning, and subject content and education management must be consistent with real-sector drivers as well as instilling concepts and attitudes regarding skills or the entrepreneurial spirit. In addition, this strategy aims to drive the production of graduates with the skills to potentially become entrepreneurs, with good morality and ethics. Independent entrepreneurs are expected to drive the economy of the modern world, as has happened in many countries in Asia and Southeast Asia or ASEAN.
Strategy 2: Aiming to become a college of research and innovation in biomedical engineering for ASEAN society.
This strategy aims to establish 3 main research, development and learning centers as a base for achieving the goals, which are:
1. The Smart Medical Device Research Development & Learning Center, which consists of the Medical IoT, Medical Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Medical Robotic.
2. 2. Rehabilitation Engineering Research Development & Learning Center, that aims to meet the needs of the aging and disabled society.
3. Biomaterial &Tissue Engineering Research Development & Learning Center, that aims to develop the cutting edge in regenerative medicine technologies.
These three research and development centers aims to drive, develop efficiency, increase capacity and establish the future direction of work at the College of Biomedical Engineering, Rangsit University in the mission of producing graduates, research and development, as well as providing academic services to society. The main mission of these three centers is research, development, and teaching and learning for graduate development and also demonstrate and evaluate such technologies, facilitate service delivery system changes, stimulate the production and distribution of medical devices and technology in the public and private sector, and provide training opportunities to enable individuals (including individuals with disabilities) to become researchers and competent practitioners of the technologies.
Strategy 3: Management system that facilitates the transition to the Result Based College.
This strategy is an important and supportive strategy, so that all strategies can be implemented and driven smoothly, efficiently and effectively, with emphasis on the College to be a society of good, smart, happy, warm and make people feel bonded and jointly create value-added work results, making society and the atmosphere of the College of Biomedical Engineering to be "College of Innovation and Entrepreneurship ". Developing an E- College style management system as well as making the atmosphere in every dimension conducive to the transition from the faculty of discipline to be the outcome oriented  college.
The three strategies aim to produce the following main products:
1. Produce graduates with competence as international biomedical engineers that can work all over the world and have the spirit of being an entrepreneur.
2. Producing research to create biomedical engineering innovations that benefit society.
3. To be a research, development and academic center for intelligent medical device systems, rehabilitation engineering, clinical engineering, medical materials and tissue engineering of the country and connected to the international network.
4. College of Biomedical Engineering Rangsit University will be a society with an atmosphere of "College of Innovation and Entrepreneurial Spirit", and
5. The society of students and personnel at the College of Biomedical Engineering will be a society of good, smart, happy and warm people, and will make people feel bonded and together to create added value in the work.
In the present and future world, state educational institutions alone cannot guarantee success. There are many different places to choose from to study for a degree, but we may be distinguished in terms of developing international biomedical engineering skills, entrepreneurial spirit and morality. By continuously improving, reforming and updating its approach to education and research, the College of Biomedical Engineering, Rangsit University, aims to instill this attitude in students. In their future careers this mindset will serve them well, where adaptability to new situations and technologies will be critical for success. Our students are therefore prepared with the necessary skills, confidence, and code of ethics to enter into the various dimensions of the world platform in the 21st century.
